If she is breastfeeding, reassure her that it will provide Ben with the best protection against developing an allergy, but if he starts to show symptoms to come back to the pharmacy

Breastfed infants are half or even less likely to develop eczema when compared to infants fed a formula based on intact cows' milk protein.⁹

If she is planning to breastfeed and formula feed (combination feed), you could suggest that she tries a hypoallergenic formula milk such as SMA H.A.^® to help lower the risk of developing eczema

If breastfeeding is not possible, infants at higher risk of developing allergy should be recommended a clinically-proven hydrolysed formula,² such as SMA H.A.^®

Tell her that there is no evidence of there being a family link to developing eczema, so she shouldn’t worry

It has been shown that infants are more likely to develop allergies if there is a sibling or parent with eczema, asthma, hay fever or a diagnosed food allergy³

Find out if Ben has been diagnosed with allergy to cows' milk protein or is suspected of already having an allergy to cows' milk protein before making a recommendation

Infant formula milk such as SMA H.A.^® Infant Milk should NOT be used if a baby has already been diagnosed with allergy to cows' milk proteins or is suspected of already having an allergy to cows' milk protein.
