The Well Pharmacy estate is to benefit from £3.54 million in investment over the next financial year, with the company saying its pharmacies “need to be developed” to cope with rising prescription volumes.
The company, which is the UK’s largest independent pharmacy chain, has set aside £1.25 million for refits in 18 pharmacies. A further £450,000 will be used for extensive, top-to-bottom refits for three branches “in need of major renovations.” A full refit was completed in the company’s Brynmawr branch in July.
Tracy Barton, retail stores director at Well Pharmacy said: “It’s so important for the business to continue investing in our physical estate, as our bricks and mortar pharmacies are the backbone of our business.
“With a steep increase in prescription volumes over recent years, our pharmacies need to be developed to cope with that demand, and to offer the best first impression and overall customer experience possible.”
The company’s field team identified branches where they believed making physical improvements could encourage more people to come in with their prescriptions, leading to a “significant uplift in performance,” Ms Barton said.
Following feedback from colleagues, the company has committed to spending a quarter of a million on improving staff areas. “We know our colleagues work extremely hard to care for their local communities, and they deserve the highest standards to carry out that vital work,” Ms Barton said.
