RPS outlines policy vision for Wales

The Royal Pharmaceutical Society has launched its policy vision for Wales to help shape the party political manifestos for the 2016 Welsh election.

'Steps to Better Health and Wellbeing' calls on the key political parties in Wales to improve access to services for patients and build capacity in the NHS by harnessing the skills of the pharmacy profession.

RPS Wales is calling for commitment in Wales to fully realise the potential of the profession in improving access to care and reducing pressures on other parts of the health service including general practice and accident and emergency departments.

Three calls to action are being made:

  • To establish a pharmacy-led chronic medication service
  • To permit pharmacist access to individual health records
  • To fully integrate pharmacist expertise into NHS multidisciplinary teams.

Chair of the Welsh Pharmacy Board, Suzanne Scott-Thomas said: €We are looking for commitment from the political parties in Wales to push these changes forward to improve patient safety, increase access to services and to help build capacity by ensuring all health professionals can work at the top of their game€.
