A breath operated nicotine inhaler called Voke has been granted a medicines licence by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency.
The cigarette-shaped device has been developed for Nicoventures, a subsidiary of British American Tobacco, by Kind Consumer and is intended for smokers who want to reduce, replace or stop smoking. Voke requires no battery or other energy source and is activated simply by the user inhaling.
Des Naughton, Nicoventures' managing director, says Kind Consumer €will now be pursuing a variation to the licence for a further evolution of the technology to support full-scale commercialisation€.
