IT system allows electronic repeat medicine requests

Numark and Rx Systems have launched an innovative IT system that allows pharmacists to handle patient requests for repeat medicines electronically and gain limited access to GP-held patient records (reports Charlotte Rixon).

Developed by healthcare systems provider, EMIS, which owns Rx Systems, Pharmacy Access allows pharmacies using Numark Assist V4 and the ProScript PMR system to transmit repeat medicine requests securely to EPS2-enabled GP surgeries, as well as view relevant patient data, with the GP and patient's consent.

The system also includes a free 'My local pharmacy' mobile app that allows patients to request repeat medication from their pharmacy while nominating it for the EPS.

Managing director of Numark, John D'Arcy, said that the system would €help pharmacists to fulfil their fundamental role as medicines managers€ and act as €a tool to help pharmacists take responsibility for the whole [repeat prescription] process from beginning to end€.
