The role of clinical pharmacists in general practice is being tested alongside a number of pilots looking at new workforce models as part of the Government's 'new deal' for general practice.
NHS England and the Royal Pharmaceutical Society are organising a series of webinars and events to help GP practices and pharmacists understand more about the plans, which are backed by funding of around £15 million.
NHS Engand anticipates that around 250 clinical pharmacists will be involved over the period of the pilot. Practices and groups of practices are being encouraged to work together to assemble joint bids involving pharmacists across a number of sites. It is anticipated that clinical pharmacists will be in post early in 2016.
