CPPE has developed a new e-learning programme: 'Tuberculosis: 10 ways to make a difference'
IN 2012 there were over 8,000 patients with tuberculosis (TB) in the UK. This infection can have irreversible effects on people's lives if there is a delay in diagnosing and treating it.
CPPE's new e-learning programme, 'Tuberculosis: 10 ways to make a difference', supports community pharmacists to:
€¢ Recognise potential interactions with antituberculosis medicines and provide long-term support to patients to prevent these
€¢ Identify side-effects and understand their impact on patients with TB
€¢ Provide relevant public health lifestyle advice to patients with TB and their families.
During the development of the programme CPPE talked to patients with TB (see panel) to ensure it covers both the social and medical issues that may affect patients with tuberculosis.
The programme includes ten areas of learning, each one covering a different TB-related issue where pharmacists can have a positive impact and help people with the disease to improve their quality of life. The programme can be worked through individually or by the pharmacy team.
