An innovative nicotine containing product (NCP) from Sweden, has launched into UK community pharmacies and is looking to expand its presence.

Nicoccino is a tobacco-free dissolvable film that is placed onto the gum and delivers nicotine into the bloodstream quickly and efficiently due to its high pH (10).

The product reflects the rapid nicotine uptake of a cigarette and is designed to offer another option for smokers who would like to try an alternative product to help them quit smoking other than NRT or electronic cigarettes. It is licensed as a consumer product rather than a medicine, but is made to pharmaceutical standards in a US FDA approved facility.

Nicoccino is currently available in 200 independent pharmacies and is listed with AAH Pharmaceuticals.

In a clinical trial of 40 smokers, 86 per cent said that the thin strip was an attractive option for smoking cessation.
