CPPE tackles polypharmacy in latest learning campaign

CPPE's spring learning campaign is focusing on polypharmacy. Copies of the distance learning programme, a leaflet sharing the weekly challenges and a letter outlining how pharmacy professionals can use the programme are being distributed ahead of the launch of the campaign on March 14.

CPPE has chosen to focus on polypharmacy as over the past decade the average number of items prescribed for each person per year in England has increased significantly. For many patients it may be entirely appropriate to be taking multiple medicines. However, problematic polypharmacy can occur when multiple items are prescribed inappropriately to an individual. Pharmacy professionals are in an ideal position to work with patients and other healthcare professionals to identify, prevent and resolve medicine-related problems.

There is a dedicated CPPE polypharmacy webpage, which will feature the weekly challenges, as well as further information and videos to support learning.

CPPE is encouraging pharmacy professionals to get involved on social media using the hashtag #polyharmacy and tag @cppeengland.
