‘Potentially pharmacist-manageable conditions’ accounted for 4.3 per cent of all unscheduled emergency department visits in Ontario, Canada between 2010 and 2017, according to a study in Research in Social and Administrative Pharmacy.
Acute pharyngitis was the commonest diagnosis, accounting for almost a quarter of the potentially pharmacist-manageable conditions treated in emergency departments.
Other conditions included conjunctivitis (8.9 per cent), rash and non-specific skin eruptions (8.0 per cent), otitis externa (7.1 per cent), cough (5.4 per cent) and acute sinusitis (4.3 per cent).
