Customers can follow NHS advice and take steps to help alleviate their pain, including:1

Red flag symptoms
If customers present with back pain and any of the following symptoms, refer them to their GP:1
- Numbness or tingling around the genitals or buttocks
- Difficulty peeing, or loss of control of the bowel/bladder
- Associated symptoms such as chest pain, a high temperature (fever) or unexplained weight loss
- Any swelling/deformity
- If the pain isn't getting better, or is worse at night
- If the symptoms started after a serious accident.
