The AnuSol range

AnuSol has a range of products that you can recommend to relieve uncomplicated internal and external haemorrhoids, pruritus ani, proctitis and anal fissures. Your customer may need to try a few different formulations in order to find the one that works best for them. In some cases, a product containing a corticosteroid (hydrocortisone) such as Anusol-HC can provide enhanced relief by helping to reduce inflammation.

Anorectal conditions

Talking about anorectal conditions can be awkward or embarrassing for both you and your customer. However, there are a few things you can do to help you both feel more comfortable and maintain a supportive, professional conversation.

> CLICK THROUGH THE CAROUSEL for some consultation tips.

Use the consultation room

Offer the consultation room for privacy so your customer doesn’t have to worry about being overheard. Ask them if they would like a chaperone.

Normalise

It may help your customer feel less awkward if you explain how common these conditions are and that many people are likely to experience them at some point.

Reassure

Noticing blood in stools can be alarming and your customer may be worried. Although the presence of blood can be a red flag for many conditions, the anorectal conditions discussed are often due to an acute event. You can make customers aware of this, while still being mindful to refer them appropriately.

Be non-judgemental

It’s important to remain professional during these conversations as your customer is likely to be embarrassed themselves. If you look uncomfortable, they may feel worse. Maintaining a neutral expression, listening attentively and asking open questions will all help.

Product preference

Listen to your customer’s individual needs. There is a wide range of products available to choose from in the AnuSol range. Think about the nature of their condition, the extent of the irritation/inflammation and their format preferences and tailor your recommendations accordingly.

Know when to refer

It’s important to refer your customer if they have:

  • Significant rectal bleeding

  • Persistent symptoms

  • Severe pain

  • Fever or feeling hot, cold, shivery or generally unwell

  • Unexplained weight loss

  • Family history of bowel cancer
