Scenario: The parents of an 8-year-old girl ask for your help. Their daughter has had an itchy scalp for the past couple of weeks and has been scratching it. They saw the doctor last week, who prescribed a shampoo, but it has not helped. Her mother tried to arrange another appointment, but the doctor cannot see the child for another week – they are hoping you can suggest something. They tell you that she has eczema, although this affects her legs and knees, only flaring up occasionally, which they manage with a steroid ointment. What do you advise?

The parents of a 5-year-old girl bring their daughter to the pharmacy as they want your opinion on a dark/purple rash that has developed on her legs over the last 24 hours. They say her legs look a little swollen and she has been complaining that they are painful. They are obviously anxious about the rash. Her past medical history is unremarkable, she currently has no other medical problems, and she shows no obvious signs of being unwell. How would you manage this situation?

None of his medications have been changed over the last 12 months. What do you advise?

At his last review three months ago, he was stable with no alterations to his medication regimen. She didn’t think to mention it to the doctor given that he is prone to being distracted at times. What is your advice?
