Scottish couple buy first pharmacy after securing bank funding

A couple in Scotland have bought their first pharmacy after securing a seven-figure funding package from a bank to fund the purchase.

Daniel and Daniela Ferrie, who are directors of Ferrie Healthcare, received the undisclosed fee from Unity Trust Bank and acquired John P Fenton & Sons in Greenhills Shopping Centre, East Kilbride.

Daniel Ferrie, who has 10 years’ experience as a pharmcacist, worked in the pharmacy under previous owner Felicity Fenton for three years before she decided to retire. The pharmacy has been in her family for 60 years.

He will manage the day-to-day running of the pharmacy while Daniela will take care of the administrative side of the business.

Daniel, who also mentors a trainee pharmacist each year, said he is committed to developing his staff and is studying to become an independent prescriber.

“We plan to modernise and increase the range of services we offer. Traditionally, pharmacies were just seen as a place to dispense prescriptions but we are now fully utilised as healthcare professionals and offer invaluable support to the NHS,” he said.
