RPS president Ash Soni has called for consistency across community pharmacy, saying it will be a revolution for patients if the sector can achieve it.
€The biggest innovation for pharmacy would be to do what we do well everywhere,€ Mr Soni said at a recent RPS/King's Fund event. The unpredictability of the customer experience when they step inside a pharmacy is one of the reasons why pharmacy is perceived as sitting alongside rather than within the NHS, he suggested.
GPs and other healthcare professionals should seek out the support they felt pharmacists and pharmacy support teams could provide, rather than waiting for the profession to approach them with offers of help, he said, citing the example of pharmacists working in GP surgeries as one in which GPs could be more proactive in approaching their local pharmacy and asking them for expert advice on medicines.
