Hospital admissions for smoking fall

The number of hospital admissions attributable to smoking has fallen by 18 per cent since 2004, according to the Health and Social Care Information Centre. In 2004/5 there were 559,800 admissions estimated to be attributable to smoking for adults aged 35 years or over but by 2012/13 that figure had dropped to 460,900. Of these some 131,000 admissions were for a respiratory disease, 134,300 for a circulatory disease and 156,600 had a primary diagnosis of cancer.
