Drug driving campaign starts

With new drug drive legislation being introduced in England and Wales on March 2, a THINK! campaign is encouraging people taking certain medicines to check with their doctor or pharmacist if they aren't sure whether they are safe to drive.

Eight prescription drugs €“ clonazepam, diazepam, flunitrazepam, lorazepam, oxazepam, temazepam, methadone and morphine €“ are affected but the limits set for these drugs exceed normal prescribed doses.

The campaign advises drivers taking prescribed medication at high doses to carry evidence with them, such as prescriptions slips, when driving in order to minimise any inconvenience should they be asked to take a test by the police.
