Community Pharmacy Scotland (CPS) has launched a manifesto to engage with politicians from all political parties in Scotland and to illustrate how the evolution of pharmacy services can enable the NHS in Scotland to survive and prosper (reports Ross Ferguson).
The manifesto, published earlier this month, highlights three main aims:
- Pharmacy First €“ make community pharmacy the first port of call when people need the NHS
- Prevent €“ build on the public health service to facilitate healthy living for those without long-term conditions CPS launches manifesto to engage with politicians
- Support €“ working with the public (including carers) to maximise the benefits of their medication.
CPS says it would like to see the national minor ailment service extended and pharmacists able to administer flu vaccines to help vaccinate hard-to-reach patients. The manifesto is being sent to all the political parties, asking them to incorporate key points in their own plans for the NHS.
€We need our politicians to be radical in tackling the issues facing our primary care. Community Pharmacy Scotland is determined that our profession plays its part to champion and support excellent health outcomes for all in the communities we serve,€ says CPS chairman Martin Green.
