Pharmacy teams may have noticed an increase in inquiries about bacterial vaginosis (BV) recently, following a successful national campaign to raise awareness of the common women's health condition.
Organised by women's healthcare experts Balance Activ, National BV Day (16 April) was covered in the national press and resulted in a fourfold increase in visits to dedicated information websites: bvexplained.co.uk and balanceactiv.com.
The campaign featured real-life stores from women who had experienced BV and its complications, including premature birth and miscarriage, and directed women towards their pharmacy for advice. It also highlighted the fact that one in three women suffer from BV at some point in their lives, yet over half have not heard of it.
€Although BV is one of the most common female health conditions in the UK, awareness levels are low,€ said Talia Stokes, senior technical marketing manager for Balance Activ. €It's important that women obtain accurate diagnoses and are pointed towards the right treatment.€
