Boots seeks to crack digital healthcare with acquisition

Boots has acquired a digital health company in a move that will link customers of the pharmacy multiple to their GP records for the purposes of ordering prescriptions online.

Wiggly-Amps, which following the acquisition is to be rebranded as Engage Health Systems, provides online services including check-in screens at GP surgeries, weight measurement, consultation and prescription services and building GP websites. It will continue to operate as a separate entity to Boots.

Boots UK pharmacy director Richard Bradley said: “Wiggly-Amps allows Boots UK to access software, which provides the technology capability that links the customers and patients from Boots directly to their GP records for ordering prescriptions online.

“Not only will this empower customers to better manage their healthcare needs in an accessible way, it will make the process much simpler and quicker for patients and support the NHS in the longer term.”

Wiggly-Amps MD Jon Witte said Boots “has the scale and reputation to make the best use of this software and we look forward to working with Boots UK to help them fulfil their vision of connecting directly with their customers simply and quickly”.
