Boots launches meningitis B vaccination service

Boots has launched a new, private meningitis B vaccination service in selected stores for children aged between two and 18 years old.

In September, the NHS introduced meningitis B vaccination as part of the routine childhood immunisations programme, scheduling vaccinations to infants at the age of two, four and 12 months of age. While this vaccination routine helps to protect the most vulnerable babies at an age group when they are most at risk of developing meningitis B, Boots says that some parents may want to consider vaccination for their children who are outside of the routine age range for the NHS programme.

If a child is eligible for the Boots service, they will receive two vaccinations a minimum of two months apart for those aged 2-10 years and a minimum of one month apart for those aged 11 years upwards.

Marc Donovan, chief pharmacist at Boots UK, said: €Vaccination services are an increasingly important part of our pharmacy offer and demonstrate that a pharmacist can offer much more to patients."

The cost for each vaccination is £95.00. As there are two recommended doses, the cost for the total course is £190.00.
