Greater role in hayfever for pharmacists?

New research has found that 93 per cent of GPs and 97 per cent of pharmacists believe that a greater role for pharmacists in managing hayfever would benefit NHS resources.

However only 23 per cent of pharmacists reported holding consultations with patients presenting with hayfever symptoms. The findings are contained in the ‘One Airway, One Disease’ report, named after World Health Organization guidance to treat both conditions in parallel.

However 41 per cent of people with hayfever and asthma had never received a dedicated consultation to discuss hayfever and asthma symptoms together, the report found, and a further 22 per cent of sufferers had never discussed both conditions at the same time in a consultation.
