Diabetes Professional Care 2016

Innovative products, new technologies and ground-breaking therapeutic solutions will be on show at this year’s Diabetes Professional Care 2016, supported by Pharmacy Magazine as its official media partner.

Held on November 16-17 at Olympia, London, this free-to-attend, CPD-certified conference and exhibition provides a platform for healthcare professionals responsible for commissioning, buying and delivering diabetes care in the UK.

Major names from across Europe will be using the show to launch their latest developments in medicine, technology, life sciences, healthy living and lifestyle, and wound care.

For example, GlucoRx will be presenting its Nexus meter range, which uses advanced GDH-FAD enzyme technology for fast, precise and reliable blood glucose results. Cellnovo will launch its ‘world first’ mobile diabetes management system, while the Forum for Injection Technique (FIT UK), with its UK Injection Technique Recommendations, will be launched live through interactive workshops.

Event director Toby Baker comments: “It is great to see so many major industry names getting behind the show, with more on the way.”

Keynote presentations

Conference sessions include keynote presentations from NHS England and the Diabetes Think Tank. The educational conference is a multi-stream programme, covering the full diabetes spectrum, from technologies, diagnostics and prevention, to commissioning, paediatrics, and primary and secondary care.

Conference director Karen Richardson says: “We want our conference to be the forum where new ideas are born, understanding is deepened, solutions are progressed and hot topics like DKA, monogenic diabetes and biosimilars are addressed.”

National clinical director for obesity and diabetes at NHS England, Professor Jonathan Valabhji, and associate national clinical director for diabetes at NHS England, Dr Partha Kar, will present the show’s first keynote session. Professor Valabhji will discuss ‘Diabetes and the NHS’, while Dr Kar will look at ‘The art of the possible’.

Clinical research fellow Dr Sophie Eastwood will analyse type 2 diabetes in ethnic minority groups. As part of the diabetes technology and diagnostics stream, senior clinical lecturer Dr David Strain will examine the role of ketosis.

Other features

New for 2016, the Innovation Zone will allow visitors to get close to the people and technologies shaping the future of diabetes care. Attendees will be able to explore The Edge, a forum displaying the latest dynamic technology from exciting start-up companies.

Flow Technologies will be using The Edge to introduce the PulseFlowDF, its innovative medical device for the treatment of diabetic foot ulcers. Diabetes Solutions will introduce: iGlucose, its new blood glucose meter; DPNCheck, its hand-held device for screening and treating peripheral neuropathy; and iChroma, the new point-of-care device for monitoring key parameters in diabetes clinics.

Workshops will be hosted by healthcare professionals and organisations working at the forefront of diabetes care. Attendees will be able to examine issues facing their communities, while sharing real-life experiences and discussing practical solutions.

During The Live Debate experts will deliberate over a current topical issue within the diabetes healthcare sector. Visitors to the show will be encouraged to interact with the panel and ask questions, plus they will also get to vote for their preferred argument.

The seven-stream, CPD-accredited conference programme will run throughout the two days with keynote presentations from NHS England, NHS Digital and Diabetes Think Tank.

The Diabetes Village presents healthcare professionals, working in primary and secondary care, with a dedicated zone to network.

The Commissioning Zone meeting and networking area is dedicated to senior-level decision makers and allows VIPs and commissioners to engage with industry representatives.
