Exclusive: Pharmacy chain Ascent Wellfield has told P3pharmacy it plans to appeal the Croydon employment tribunal’s decision to order it to pay £2,000 to a former employee after it made a finding of harassment related to age.
Last week, P3pharmacy reported that the tribunal had found pharmacy worker Anna Stewart suffered harassment relating to age while working at a Kent pharmacy registered as LP SD Seventy.
Ms Stewart’s successful claim of harassment related to age arose from “comments made by the pharmacist” on November 3, 2024, according to the tribunal’s report of the February 18-19 proceedings.
Other complaints of harassment related to age and of direct age discrimination were dismissed by the tribunal.
Manchester-headquartered company Ascent Wellfield owns LP SD Seventy, which is based in Maidstone and trades as Grove Green Pharmacy.
A spokesperson for Ascent Wellfield told P3pharmacy: “We are disappointed with the outcome of this tribunal decision and the award that has been made. We do not believe that the full and accurate context of the situation was reflected during proceedings, and as such, we respectfully disagree with the judgment.
“We are currently reviewing the decision in detail and can confirm that we intend to appeal. We remain confident in our position and will be taking the necessary steps to ensure that all relevant facts are properly considered.”
