Patient safety in community pharmacy

This CPD module will help pharmacists and their teams recognise the importance of reporting patient safety incidents.

This CPD module looks at patient safety in community pharmacy.

Goal & learning objectives:

This module will help pharmacists and their teams recognise the importance of reporting patient safety incidents. You will learn how reporting these incidents can benefit other pharmacy teams to prevent the same incident occurring in their own pharmacy. Pharmacists will also be able to reflect on whether the patient safety incident reports their teams are currently making contribute to a supportive culture of improvement.

Contributing author:

Kate Livesey, senior policy and programmes adviser and patient safety lead at the Company Chemists’ Association.

How to use this module

You can test your existing understanding of this topic by completing the initial pre-test. Then work through the module before taking the post-test to see if your knowledge has improved.

Record your learning and how you applied it in practice using the action and evaluation record at the end of this module, which will then be stored in your personal learning log. You must be registered on the website to do this.

Continuing professional development (CPD) is a statutory requirement for pharmacists. Completion of this module will contribute to the nine pieces of CPD that must be recorded a year, as stipulated by the GPhC.
