Society moves into its new East London home

The Royal Pharmaceutical Society has moved into its new headquarters in East London.

The relocation to refurbished premises at 66-68 East Smithfield will give members access to the very latest in modern meeting and conference facilities, the RPS says.

The building is equipped with an auditorium-style conference suite and separate event space, with wifi and the latest audio visual technology available throughout the building. Modern energy saving adaptions include solar roof panels and a low energy optimising building management system.

RPS members are invited to visit and make use of a drop-in café hub and atrium library on the ground floor. The location is accessible via local public transport links, including the Thames River Bus.

Commenting on the move, RPS treasurer Sultan “Sid” Dajani said: “This relocation of our HQ was funded from the sale of our Lambeth building and the move brings a substantial saving of £500,000 a year in running costs for the RPS. With this successful relocation completed we now have an excellent London base which we are encouraging RPS members to use.”

Located within the East London borough of Tower Hamlets, near St Katharine Docks and Tower Hill, the new RPS headquarters looks out over views of key London landmarks such as The Gherkin, The Shard and Canary Wharf.

In celebration of the diversity of its new home community, the building features a new glass frontage, displaying a multi-language word montage in 24 different languages alongside the Society’s crest.

RPS President Ash Soni said: “Our new permanent home is an excellent location to serve our members and enables the Royal Pharmaceutical Society to continue to represent and support the profession at the highest level. It is a fantastic building which I sincerely hope will play a key role in drawing our membership community together, as well as integrating this community with our new neighbours – the community of Tower Hamlets.”

A new Royal Pharmaceutical Society museum, which will be open to the public, is due to open at the site later this summer.
