Conservative peer Lord Prior of Brampton has been named as the proposed new chair of NHS England, taking over from Sir Malcolm Grant this autumn.
Before the appointment can be confirmed, a pre-appointment hearing must be held with the Commons health and social care committee, although the committee’s recommendation is not binding.
Lord Prior would be the second person to hold the post since NHS England was brought about by the Health Act 2012. His healthcare experience includes serving as Care Quality Commission chair from 2013 to 2015 and his current chairship of University College London Hospitals Foundation Trust, a position he has held since December 2017.
