Viagra Connect, the erectile dysfunction POM-to-P switch from Pfizer Consumer Healthcare, is now available from pharmacies and pharmacy wholesalers across the country following a limited period of exclusivity with Boots.

General manager Paul Rose said: “We are delighted with the positive response to Viagra Connect from pharmacies, not only through the pre-sale orders we’ve taken to date, but also in the response to our training and education programme. [The] roll-out will not only open up many more points of access for men to get help and obtain treatment, but it also provides a new opportunity for pharmacists to reach male customers.”

The launch is supported by an extensive pharmacy training programme, including e-learning content, face-to-face sessions and regional education meetings. Since the first evening meeting in March in London, over 500 pharmacy team members have attended. Pfizer will continue the education meetings until the end of May, with limited spaces still available.

Terry Maguire, community pharmacist and owner of Maguire Pharmacies in Belfast, said: “I believe giving men wider access to erectile dysfunction medication will help drive greater awareness of this important, yet too often ignored, condition. There is a huge public health opportunity in this switch as community pharmacy can now more easily engage with sufferers and address wider health needs such as reducing heart disease risk.”
