Management of childhood eczema

Atopic eczema has a profound impact on children's quality of life. How can pharmacy teams help?

Atopic eczema has a profound impact on quality of life for both the child affected and the whole family. This module will update your understanding of the underlying pathology and presenting features of childhood atopic eczema, the management options in primary and secondary care, and the possible complications. It will also equip you to help parents manage their child’s eczema using prescribed and OTC treatments, and deal with those seeking advice.

Other areas where pharmacy teams can also assist include explaining the ‘stepped care’ approach to treatment, advising on the effective use of emollients, tackling steroid phobia and ensuring that parents have adequate supplies of medication to treat flare-ups promptly.
