Seats of our Pants

Most of the time we are flying by the seats of our pants never knowing if there are going to be staff members in or not (regular ones or other "newbies") yet the regularity of repeat Rx's never ceases, the ability to contact GP's has virtually dried up to zero, the cooperation of GP surgeries has been diabolical in many case where patients are being pushed towards us, the ability to keep 2 metres away from other members of staff in tiny working environments is laughable and getting staff members to use the inadequate PPE is haphazard. I insist that staff members involved with preparing and/or checking MDS trays MUST now wear PPE as we are a huge risk to these mainly elderly patients because we haven't been tested for COVID-19 and the plans to do so seem a pipedream away. Lord knows what'll happen if we find that testing prevents virtually all staff members from continuing work. Add to this the incessant telephone demands for deliveries, the rudeness, expectations and entitlements that some patients adhere to etc.

We as a profession are the current canaries down the coalmine. We have face 30 years of being kicked to death by all colours of governments. Locum rates are lower than they were 20 years ago and we are not included in any NHS pension schemes. For all this we're expected to do our utmost, putting our lives, colleagues, patients and families at risk while many snotty legal professionals sit at home protected after 30+ successive years of growth waiting for the day when they can mop up after Covid and make even more sunshine hay. What's wrong with this country that's based upon privileged, entitled, groups and people who can then say sod the rest?
