E-learning tool on type 1 diabetes

NICE has launched a new online learning tool on type 1 diabetes that uses interactive activities and case studies to support its guidance implementation.

The tool, which has been developed by the Centre for Pharmacy Postgraduate Education, will help healthcare professionals understand how the NICE guideline can be applied in a practical way to support adults with type 1 diabetes to self-manage their regimen effectively.

It uses interactive activities to focus on the recommendations for:

  • Explaining the benefits of structured education in insulin self-management
  • Agreeing individualised targets and testing regimens
  • Identifying appropriate insulin regimens
  • Assessing awareness of hypoglycaemia and hyperglycaemia
  • Identifying factors that can contribute to excellent inpatient experience.

The free online tool is aimed at healthcare professionals in primary and secondary care, including doctors, nurses, pharmacists, podiatrists and dieticians. The tool will also be useful for commissioners of services for adults with type 1 diabetes.
