David Mowat is the new pharmacy minister

The new pharmacy minister is David Mowat, who replaces Alistair Burt. Mr Mowat’s brief includes all elements of primary care, adult social care, carers, community services, cancer, dementia and learning disabilities.

Mr Mowat was elected as the MP for Warrington South in May 2010 and is one of three new ministers at the Department of Health following Theresa May’s appointment as Prime Minister. Jeremy Hunt retained his post as health secretary.

Commenting on the appointment, chair of the RPS English Pharmacy Board, Sandra Gidley, said the Society is seeking an early meeting with the minister. “I very much hope he will be able to bring clarity around timing of announcement of community pharmacy reforms which is currently causing great anxiety and concern in the sector.”
