Green light for 2019-20 flu vaccination service

The Secretary of State directions that give the legal green light for pharmacy contractors in England to deliver a flu vaccination service in 2019-20 have been signed.

This means that community pharmacies that fully meet the requirements for delivering the Service now have the go ahead to do so from September 1. PSNC is advising that contractors should read PSNC Briefing 031/19: Guidance on the Seasonal Influenza Vaccination Advanced Service 2019/20 (in addition to the service specification and Patient Group Direction) as this provides detailed advice on what contractors need to have in place before providing the service.

Further information about this year’s flu programme, including an e-learning programme written by Public Health England and a video on how to administer the vaccine from NHS Education for Scotland is available in the government collection of resources for the programme.
