Clinitas Soothe Multi (10ml, £8.95) is a preservative-free eye drop which offers “rapid and prolonged relief from dry eye discomfort”, says Altacor. Containing sodium hyaluronate 0.4%, the formulation boosts and stabilises the tear film, “stays in the eye for long-lasting comfort and is generally suitable for contact lens wearers”, says the company. Once opened, a bottle can be used for up to 90 days. The Royal Pharmaceutical Society estimates that over two-thirds of community pharmacists talk to patients about dry eye more than once a week.

Thealoz

Thealoz Duo Gel (30 unit doses, £10.99) is a gel-based dry eye drop from Thea Pharmaceuticals that has been formulated to extend the ocular surface residence time of Thealoz Duo. This prolonged effect makes it ideal for night-time use, in conjunction with Thealoz Duo for use through the day, says the company. The addition of carbomer 0.25% (lubricant gel) in Thealoz Duo Gel has been shown to significantly extend the increase in tear film thickness when compared with gels containing only hyaluronic acid or polyethylene glycol, adds the company. Murine has a range of solutions to tackle and relieve dry, irritated, sore, itchy and red eyes, says Prestige Brands. Eye care brand Vizulize is looking to break into the pharmacy eye care category with a range of “contact lens friendly and naturally kind to eyes” products. The pharmacy range comprises eye drops and eye mist for dry eyes, intensive dry eye drops, hypromellose 0.3% eye drops, eye drops and eye spray for irritated eyes and a multi-action eye wash in two sizes. Retail prices range from £2.99 to £10.99. EM Pharma says all the products are suitable for use with contact lenses, have the same pH as tear fluid (7.2) and are isotonic solutions so won’t dry the eyes out.
