CPPE: new interactive programme on BNF

CPPE and BNF Publications have produced an interactive programme to help users navigate the new changes to the BNF.

The British National Formulary (BNF) and British National Formulary for Children (BNFC) are the main information resources for healthcare professionals on independent guidance on best practices and clinically validated drug information. The BNF has recently undergone a fundamental change to the structure of its content.

These changes have been made to bring consistency and clarity to the BNF content and the way the content is arranged within all its products: the printed book, the online format and the latest app.

CPPE and BNF Publications have worked together to produce an interactive programme – ‘How to use the BNF’ – to help users navigate the new changes so they can become familiar with this new structure.

Step by step...

The programme guides users through the changes to all sections of each of the BNF formats, and uses case studies to put the learning into practice. There are step-by-step guidance notes and visual representations of what will be seen in the different formats when searching for different medicines data.

It is important for healthcare professionals to be able to find the information they require easily and quickly, and this new programme will enable users to become more familiar with the new structure.

The programme is available to all healthcare professionals, including students, and can be accessed on the CPPE website. Any non-GPhC registrants can register with CPPE and then have access to this free programme.

Changes to clinical data or guidance within the BNF are published monthly, and every six months a new printed BNF publication is produced that includes all the recent changes.

Interactive

To complement the ‘How to use the BNF’ programme, CPPE and the BNF have also produced ‘What’s new in the BNF?’ – a series of interactive programmes that use case studies to highlight the most recent changes with the aim of helping users keep up-to-date on how these changes will affect their practice.

  • The latest programme, ‘What’s new in BNF 70?’, can be accessed at the CPPE website.
