Welcome to this CPD module

This CPD module, which also appears in the April 2017 print edition of Pharmacy Magazine, looks at carrying out MURs for older people in a domiciliary setting.

Goal and objectives:

This module aims to improve your knowledge and confidence so that you are able to undertake patient-centred and outcome-focused MURs for older people who live in their own homes. After studying this module, you will be able to describe the different factors that impact on medicines optimisation in this scenario and outline the practical steps needed for completing a MUR in a patient’s home.

Contributing author:

Lelly Oboh, consultant pharmacist, care of older people.

How to use this module

You can test your existing understanding of this topic by completing the initial pre-test. Then work through the module before taking the post-test to see if your knowledge has improved.

Record your learning and how you applied it in practice using the action and evaluation record at the end of this module, which will then be stored in your personal learning log. You must be registered on the website to do this.

Continuing professional development (CPD) is a statutory requirement for pharmacists. Completion of this module will contribute to the nine pieces of CPD that must be recorded a year, as stipulated by the GPhC.

Working in association with the RPS Faculty

Pharmacy Magazine’s CPD modules are an important part of advancing your professional development, providing you with essential knowledge and skills. They can be considered alongside other activities for inclusion in your RPS Faculty portfolio.

The RPS Faculty is a professional recognition programme for all pharmacists in all sectors at all stages of their career and involves assessment of a practice-based portfolio that recognises your professional development. This allows you to demonstrate to others your level of attainment and stage of advanced practice.

It also helps you identify what you need to know at different stages of your career. Start your Faculty journey by accessing the portfolio and tools at www.rpharms.com/Faculty.
