Doctors poor at recognising anaphylaxis

Junior doctors are poor at recognising and managing anaphylaxis, according to a UK study involving 68 foundation doctors. All the junior doctors recognised the need for adrenaline to treat true anaphylaxis but only 34 per cent were aware of the correct dose and route of administration. Twenty-five per cent – “a worryingly high proportion” – suggested inappropriate intravenous adrenaline, which can cause iatrogenic deaths. (Postgrad Med J doi:10.1136/ postgradmedj-2013-132181)
